CenturyLink Wholesale Joins Association: MTIA welcomes CenturyLink Wholesale as a new member company this week. The carrier, formerly known as LightCore, provides wholesale bandwidth and transport services to carriers and service providers. The company owns and maintains a right-of-way network spanning 17 states. Dan Davis, senior assistant general counsel, will serve as the company's primary MTIA contact. To learn more about their Missouri operations click on www.centurylink.com/business/Wholesale/OurNetwork.

Regional Telecom Leaders Meet in Branson: Missouri played host this week to a regional conference for NTCA members from 11 states. The conference featured a detailed look at the National Broadband Plan and was the first opportunity to introduce the organization's new CEO Shirley Bloomfield to the membership. Bill Rohde, executive vice president and general manger of Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company, serves on the NTCA board representing member companies in Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Data Centers Fade From Final Package: State lawmakers concluded their special session on Wednesday, approving legislation reforming the state's pension system and providing tax incentives for Ford Motor Company. Passage of the Ford incentives gave Governor Nixon a big victory, one that had looked doubtful earlier in the week. Senator Chuck Purgason had pledged to derail the Ford bill, and spent nearly 20 hours on the floor engaged in a filibuster that concluded Wednesday morning.

MTIA and other stakeholders had urged the Governor to expand the special session call in order to consider incentives for the construction of data centers in the state, but that effort faded in the push to get the Ford bill approved. The effort did, however, reveal broad legislative support for the data center plan. The idea is likely to be pushed again when lawmakers return in 2011.

Industry Partner of the Week: MTIA member company FishNet Security provides consulting and integration services, products and solutions for the data and fiber networks of Missouri's telecommunications carriers. For more information contact Cory Strange, account executive, at 817-562-2351 or visit them online at www.fishnetsecurity.com. Back to Current Manager's Memo
