Granby Keeps Customers Informed on FTTH Project: MTIA member company Granby Telephone Company is getting their customers actively engaged in the progress of a major FTTH project now underway in their service area. Granby's fiber to the home network rebuild began last July and will continue through 2014. To keep their customer base up to date on the broadband deployment, Granby is sending a project newsletter to all customers each quarter to track the plan's progress. And, with a special "In Progress" report available on their website, Granby is highlighting the benefits of the broadband project online. Grand River, Northeast Use Stimulus Funds to Expand Broadband Two MTIA member companies serving rural counties in northern Missouri have been awarded major grants in the second funding round of the federal broadband stimulus program. Grand River Mutual Telephone Company and Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Company will use the federal funds to expand broadband service through fiber-to-the-home projects in their service areas. - Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company Gives Back to the Community Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company recently presented a check for $50,000 to members of the Knox County Community Center Board. Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company is the Community Center’s largest in hand donation to date. They were the first donors to receive Diamond Donor status. More>>
- Citizen Telephone Purchases Cable Provider Citizens Communications Corporation (the parent company of Citizens Telephone Company and Citizens Long Distance Company) and LongView Cable and Data LLC have entered into an agreement for Citizens to acquire the assets of LongView’s local cable and data services business in the Higginsville area. - Linn State Telecom Students Receive More Funds The Foundation for Linn State Technical College (LSTC) and the Missouri Telecommunications Industry Association (MTIA) is pleased to announce the availability of additional scholarship funds for LSTC students enrolled in the Telecommunications program. CORE Telecom Systems, Inc. recently donated $2,000 to MTIA to provide two additional scholarships for LSTC telecommunications students. MTIA already provides two $1000.00 scholarships each year to students enrolled in the program. More>>
- Building a Communications Network for the Future Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Company (NEMR)’s Broadband Stimulus Application to construct fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) in the Unionville Missouri telephone exchange has been approved. U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made the announcement in February saying the approved broadband projects will create construction jobs now to build high speed Internet networks and bring broadband to rural America so that Americans can compete in a global 21st Century economy. NEMR’s general manager, Gary Godfrey stated, "This project will provide greatly improved broadband services and create the potential for increases in business growth, public safety services and quality of life for residents in the Unionville area. In a year marked by economic challenges that impacted the industry’s bottom line and company mergers that altered the telecom landscape, MTIA continued to serve as an effective forum to promote the mutual interests of the industry’s diverse membership. With a focus on consensus building, the association tackled core industry issues, worked to find common areas of agreement, and advocated for needed changes with both state and federal policy makers.
